One notable feature is that the reported hum is rarely described as painfully loud. The best-known historical example is the Levelland, Texas incident of November 1957. Why witness accounts are difficult to verify
Vehicle-interference reports are often presented as stronger than ordinary sighting reports because they involve an observable effect on machinery. In practice, however, several factors make them difficult to evaluate rigorously.
First, most cases occurred unexpectedly at night on isolated roads. Few included contemporaneous instrument recordings, mechanical inspections performed immediately after the event, or environmental measurements of electrical or magnetic conditions.
Second, many reports describe vehicles that resumed normal operation before mechanics could identify any fault. Atmospheric electricity.
